Aleesha Colpaert

After nearly a year as a stay-at-home mom, Aleesha Colpaert was ready to reenter the workforce, but finding part-time work that fit her schedule and responsibilities proved challenging. Determined to create a better future for herself and her child, Aleesha visited the SEMCA Michigan Works! Monroe American Job Center in August 2024. There, she enrolled in the PATH program and began exploring long-term career opportunities.

Aleesha had always been passionate about helping others, and a healthcare career seemed like the right path. After researching her options, she set her sights on becoming an EMT and applied to the program at Dorsey School. Once accepted, SEMCA Michigan Works! covered the full cost of Aleesha’s tuition and provided gas cards to support her daily commute. Our team also offered resume assistance, job application support, and connected her with childcare resources to ensure she could stay focused on her goals.

Aleesha began classes in October 2024 and quickly stood out, consistently ranking at the top of her class. Her drive and commitment paid off: In January, before even completing her training, she was offered a full-time EMT position with Medstar. After graduating in March 2025, she officially began her new career.

To ease her transition into the workforce, our team continued to support Aleesha by covering her certification exam fees, licensing costs, and uniform expenses.
