Angel Allen
When Angel Allen decided to return to community college, she knew she had to juggle classes, work, and everyday life. She needed a flexible job, a refresher on computer skills, and reliable access to technology. Without a personal computer, she planned to rely on public computers for her full course load—something that could make her journey more difficult.
That’s when Angel walked into the SEMCA Michigan Works! Monroe American Job Center in January 2024. In just one visit, she connected with the career and supportive services that would help her reach her goals. We helped Angel find a job that fit her class schedule, and we supplied her with a laptop for her coursework—making it possible to complete assignments from home without the stress of limited computer access.
By the end of her first semester, Angel had not only succeeded in class but also found steady employment that worked around her school commitments.
“Now that I’ve taken some classes, I realize it would have been really hard to do my schoolwork without a laptop. I’m glad that I came to SEMCA Michigan Works!.” Angel shared.
Balancing public transportation, work, and school is no small task, but Angel’s determination and the right resources have kept her moving forward. Her story is proof that the first step—simply walking through our doors—can open the way to opportunity, support, and success.
