Lakosmia Walker
- Partnership. Accountability. Training. Hope. (PATH)
Lakosmia Walker entered the SEMCA Michigan Works! in July 2024, facing a difficult personal situation that led her from Georgia back to Michigan with her two youngest children. Her goal was to rebuild a stable life, close to family and community support.
One of Lakosmia’s biggest obstacles was securing safe housing. Initially, she and her children shared a small bedroom, which made daily life challenging. Through the SEMCA Michigan Works! PATH program, she was referred to Wayne Metro and enrolled in their rapid rehousing program. With their support, Lakosmia found a home and is eagerly awaiting final inspections to officially move in.
Shortly after joining the PATH program, Lakosmia secured employment. SEMCA Michigan Works! provided her with a work clothing and shoes voucher, which helped her prepare for her new role. Additionally, we were able to repair her car, ensuring she had reliable transportation for her job.
Reflecting on her journey, Lakosmia shared that finding the courage to leave Georgia and start fresh in Michigan was her biggest challenge. She hopes to inspire others facing similar struggles to reach out for help and follow up on every resource available. As she says, “Getting all the necessary resources helped me feel more at ease and like I’m getting back to my best self.”
Lakosmia’s story is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when determination meets support. Her courage to ask for help and commit to each step of her journey has led her toward a brighter, more secure future for herself and her family.
