Shauna Maxwell’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Before contacting the SEMCA Michigan Works! Monroe American Job Center, she faced multiple challenges that made it difficult to create a stable life for herself and her two daughters. Struggling with a lack of steady employment and limited job experience, Shauna found it hard to balance family responsibilities while searching for flexible work opportunities. To make matters more difficult, she was without a strong support system and navigating the uncertainties of homelessness.
With support from the youth program at SEMCA Michigan Works!, Shauna’s life began to take a positive turn. She gained valuable professional skills during her paid work experience, which provided her with consistent and flexible hours that suited both her schedule and her children’s needs. This newfound stability gave her the opportunity to secure permanent housing, offering her family a sense of security they had not experienced before. Beyond the tangible benefits, Shauna discovered a growing interest in office and administrative work, sparking new possibilities for her future career.
One of the most impactful aspects of her experience was the support network she built along the way. This network not only gave her the encouragement she needed to keep moving forward but also helped her rebuild her confidence, allowing her to set her sights on long-term goals.
