Rehena Rima
- Youth (WIOA)
Rehena Rima found herself at a turning point in her life—searching for stability, a meaningful career, and a future she could feel proud of. With limited work experience, no formal vocational training, unreliable transportation, and no professional attire for interviews, even small steps toward employment felt out of reach. Beneath those challenges was an even greater obstacle: she struggled to believe she was capable of achieving her goals. The road ahead felt overwhelming. Even still, after hearing about SEMCA Michigan Works! from a friend, she decided to take a chance.
When Rehena was officially enrolled in the youth program in August 2021, the decision marked the beginning of a powerful transformation. With the support of her Career Coach, she began to see possibilities where she once saw barriers. She received personalized guidance and critical supportive services that helped stabilize her situation. Gas cards ensured she could get where she needed to go, assistance with books and supplies allowed her to stay focused on school, and access to professional clothing helped her show up to opportunities with confidence and pride.
Motivated to build a future in healthcare, Rehena enrolled in EKG and Phlebotomy training through MediCerts. Although unexpected life challenges prevented her from completing those certifications at the time, she refused to let that setback define her path. Instead, she redirected her focus and continued pushing forward. With determination and the steady encouragement of her Career Coach, Rehena achieved a major milestone—earning both her associate and bachelor’s degrees.
As her confidence grew, so did her opportunities. Through her program involvement, she connected with the SEMCA PATH team, where she continued to develop her skills and professional presence. What began as a support system soon evolved into a career opportunity. Encouraged by those who had witnessed her growth firsthand, Rehena applied for a position and was hired as a part-time Intake Specialist for the Adult PATH Program at the SEMCA Michigan Works! Highland Park American Job Center.
Reflecting on her journey, Rehena shares that the program gave her more than just financial assistance—it gave her the belief that she could succeed. While the support helped remove immediate barriers, it was the consistent guidance, encouragement, and accountability that truly changed her trajectory. She learned that setbacks don’t have to end the story—they can redirect it.
Today, Rehena stands in a place that once felt far beyond her reach. She is employed, educated, and confident in her ability to keep growing. Her journey is a reminder that success doesn’t always follow a straight path—but with resilience, support, and determination, it is always within reach.
