In a challenging turn of events, the SEMCA Michigan Works! Highland Park American Job Center and its team of Business Service Representatives faced a critical situation when notified by Faurecia about the impending closure of their plant. The news meant 100 white-collar workers and 600 production workers would be facing layoffs in September 2023. Without hesitation, Regina Jones, Ken Miller, and Director Kevin Weeks, sprang into immediate action.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Highland Park AJC team, in collaboration with their partners including the Unemployment Insurance Agency, Labor of Economic Growth, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, and Veteran Affairs, orchestrated a Rapid Response Team. Their collective mission: to provide support and assistance to the 700 soon-to-be-laid-off workers.

For several days, the Highland Park AJC team held in-person sessions at the Faurecia plant. In these sessions, they delivered valuable resources, presented job opportunities, and discussed supportive services available to those affected by the plant closure. The team also engaged with numerous employers who pledged to hire workers or provide on-the-job training, extending a lifeline of hope and opportunity to the unemployed workers.

They continue to work tirelessly, ensuring that as many individuals as possible receive the support and assistance they need during this challenging time.
