Whitney Harley
- Partnership. Accountability. Training. Hope. (PATH)
When Whitney Harley first connected with the SEMCA Michigan Works! Southgate American Job Center (AJC), she was ready to create a better future for herself and her 7-year-old daughter. A single mother with an associate degree in Health Information Technology, Whitney had the education and determination to succeed—but faced two major barriers: childcare and finding a job in her field.
Working alongside her Career Coach, Michele Crosato, Whitney turned her challenges into an action plan. Together, they tackled her barriers head-on, explored targeted job opportunities, and identified resources to support her journey. Whitney used Great Start to Quality to find reliable childcare and took advantage of every opportunity to grow—attending the PATH Motivational Workshop, Fall Career Fair, and New Year, New Career Job Fair at the Southgate AJC.
Her persistence paid off. In April 2025, Whitney launched her career as a Medical Records Representative with Henry Ford Health in Troy. She now works full-time, earning $16.67 per hour, and has achieved the financial stability she worked so hard to build.
Throughout her journey, the PATH program provided critical support, including transitional supportive service gift cards, a job readiness kit, and referrals for professional clothing to help her feel confident in her new role.
Reflecting on her experience, Whitney shared:
“SEMCA Michigan Works! has changed my life—and my family’s—for the better. I was determined to find employment in the medical field, but my lack of experience made it challenging. My Career Coach, Michele, encouraged me every step of the way and helped me stay focused. The resources and support gave me the confidence I needed to succeed. I will forever be grateful for the PATH program and the people who helped me along this journey.”
Today, Whitney continues to move forward—driven, confident, and proof that determination and support can open the door to lasting success.
