SEMCA honors the life and legacy of Connie Carroll, a dedicated champion of human services and a true legend whose decades of advocacy and leadership shaped Monroe County and Southeast Michigan for the better. Connie passed away recently following a brief illness, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of service, compassion, and community impact.
Connie began serving on the SEMCA Workforce Development Board in 2008, providing steady leadership and a powerful voice for residents across Monroe County and the region. Her own journey through Michigan’s workforce development system inspired a lifelong commitment to helping others access the same opportunities. Early in her life, she proudly shared that she had been a participant in a workforce development program—an experience that led her to the Monroe County Employment and Training Department, where she began her career in public service.
For decades, Connie was an unwavering advocate for those most in need. As Executive Director of the United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties until her retirement in 2022, she led countless community initiatives that improved the lives of families, children, and seniors throughout the region. Her proactive leadership, deep local knowledge, and compassion made her a trusted partner to many organizations, always focused on creating real impact for Monroe County residents.
Connie’s influence extended well beyond boardrooms and offices. She was a mentor, collaborator, and friend to many in the human services and workforce development fields. Her dedication to building partnerships, expanding access to services, and advocating for vulnerable populations left a lasting imprint on the communities she cared for so deeply.
In recognition of her extraordinary legacy, the United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties will rename its Community Impact Fund as the Connie Carroll Community Impact Fund, ensuring her spirit of service and generosity endures for generations to come.
