Jas’Mine Bracey Recognized as January Specialist of the Month

Meet Jas’Mine Bracey, a Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) in-school specialist at River Rouge High School and the January 2024 Specialist of the Month. Jas’Mine has been a JMG Specialist for two years and has made a huge impact in the lives of the youth she serves. The data shows that the River Rouge class of 2023 had a 98% graduation rate and 82% are now either working or attending further education. Over 30 of her first group of students graduated with scholarships.

We asked several questions so you can get to know her better.

Why did you become a JMG Specialist?

I became a JMG specialist to encourage and assist youth with the next stages of their lives, whether it’s going straight to college or the workforce.

What inspires you about your job?

What inspires me is the motivation behind my students who really want to make a difference and be the change in their family.

Recall a favorite memory about being a JMG Specialist.

My favorite memory was seeing my first group of students graduate with over 30 kids with scholarships.

What is one of the greatest challenges you face in your job?

The greatest challenge I face is not being able to help all my students take on all their personal problems at home.

What is one of the greatest highlights/joys of your job?

The greatest highlights of my job are my students’ end-of-the-year projects when they express everything they have learned from me and how grateful they are.

Why do you think JMG is so important for youth?

I think JMG is important to youth because it encourages them to set goals for themselves and reach accomplishments they never dreamed of doing.

Share your hobbies, do you have any pets, what do you like to do in your spare time, etc.

I enjoy traveling with my daughter and coaching my high school girls’ varsity basketball team.

I played basketball at Central Michigan University on a full-ride scholarship.

I played professional basketball in Stockholm, Sweden.
